SCIENCE CONNECTIONS
S3-05: Thinking is power
JUN 22, 2023 SEASON 3 EPISODE 5
Amplify Education
Join us as we sit down with Melanie Trecek-King, college professor and creator of Thinking is Power, to explore how much of an asset science can truly be in developing the skills students need to navigate the real world. You’ll learn about “fooling” students and the importance of developing critical thinking, information literacy, and science literacy in the classroom. We’ll also share real strategies and lesson examples that help build these essential skills and engage students in learning.
And don’t forget to grab your Science Connections study guide to track your learning and find additional resources!

Greetings Educators,
My name is Deanna Ingram and I am the Curriculum and Education Specialist for the UNMC uBEATS program. I wanted to share a short introduction to uBEATS with you.
uBEATS (UNMC and UNO Building Excellence in Academics Through STEM), a FREE online science/health science resource for grades 6-12. Based on the UNMC High School Alliance, our mission is to inspire and expose students to pathways into health science professions. uBEATS is a series of 80+ e-modules on cancer, genetics, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, public health, and health careers. uBEATS is available to all educators and students FREE of charge. Our resource is aligned with NGSS Standards, the National Health Science Standards, and the Nebraska Science and Health Science Standards. uBEATS currently has over 20,000 enrollments throughout the nation. We recently gained a national endorsement from the National Consortium for Health Science Education for the alignment of our program to the national Health Science Standards. Visit the uBEATS website at this link for more information and to see example modules. www.unmc.edu/ubeats
I have had the opportunity to share uBEATS through Dianah’s collaboration and organization of ESU 10’s Science Teacher Network Collaboration Day and will be doing the same soon with Heidi Rethmeier and her science teachers in ESU 8. I would love to assist and be a part of your ESU Science Teachers Network, as well! If you would like to connect and discuss how we could implement, collaborate, and share this FREE e-learning resource with your ESU educators, please feel free to e-mail me.
Look forward to hearing from you,
Deanna Ingram, MA
